Joe Cribbs is a former professional American football player who played as a running back in the National Football League (NFL) and the United States Football League (USFL). Cribbs was born on January 5, 1958, in Sulligent, Alabama.
Cribbs played college football at Auburn University, where he was a standout player and was named a two-time All-American. He was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the 1980 NFL Draft and went on to have a successful career in the league.
During his time with the Buffalo Bills, Cribbs was a three-time Pro Bowl selection and helped lead the team to the playoffs in three consecutive seasons. He also played for the San Francisco 49ers and the Miami Dolphins in the NFL before joining the USFL.
In the USFL, Cribbs played for the Birmingham Stallions and had a productive season, leading the league in rushing yards in 1984. After the USFL folded, Cribbs returned to the NFL and played for the Indianapolis Colts before retiring from professional football.
